Celebrating the life of
Sue Kearney
December 10, 1917 - January 12, 2008
Sue Kearney
Anchorage, Alaska - On January 12, 2008 there was a great celebration in Heaven; Sue Kearney returned "HOME." She walked through this world for ninety years, but now she dances with angels, surrounded by flowers, peanut butter, and every imaginable flavor of ice cream. What a party! Long-missed loved-ones greeted Sue with broad smiles and warm embraces: mother Winnie Lanier Cowart, father Zack Cowart, step-mother Bessie Mitchum, little sister Grace Cowart, sister Zacklyn Cowart Shearouse Pooler, Georgia, sister Earnestein Cowart Daugherty Savannah, Georgia, brother Calton Cowart Garfield, Georgia and brother Lamar Mitchum Charleston, South Carolina. Even her fury friends were there, Lady and Ku, with their bright eyes sparkling and motors purring loudly. Soon, the crowd would part to reveal Joseph Patrick Kearney, Sue’s husband of almost 60 years, smiling softly as he asked, “May I have this dance?”
Sue was born on December 10, 1917 in Millen, Georgia and spent her childhood on a farm, eventually graduating from Millen High School. Soon after, she ventured-off to the city of Savannah, accepting her first job to care for young boys in an orphanage. It was there she met her husband, Joe, who was painting the building. The two built a life together in Savannah, parenting one daughter, Theresa, and after Joe's death, Sue moved to Alaska to live with her daughter until her death.
Sue now watches over her devoted daughter Theresa Kearney
Anchorage, Alaska, her brother Emmerson Cowart Hindsville
Georgia, and her dearly-loved grandchildren Janette, Bryan,
and sweet great-granddaughter, Olivia Enochs; and let us not forget her 3 feline buddies Missy, Jag-boy, and Isadora.
Sue was a proud and hard working woman. She devoted her
life to her family, sacrificing so much and asking so little. She enjoyed her crafts, and tenderly cared for her flowers, much the same way a mother tends to her babies. Simply put, her life was one of gentle dignity, and she leaves us moved by her memory; she was love.
We shall miss her.

Dear Teresa: What a lovely piece about Aunt Sue! Some of my greatest childhood memories involve all of the 'Kearney' clan. While I am saddened to hear about her death, the piece in the paper has given me comfort. I hope it brings comfort to you also. Please take care and remember that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Love to all, Lisa Cheryl Kearney
